Description
I will be teaching a beginning Portuguese class this summer for members of the CI Master Class. If you want to acquire Brazilian Portuguese (but are not a member of the CI Master Class) you are very welcome to join us. This is a free class for CI Master Class members.
Classes take place in the morning every weekday in July and will be filmed so that you can watch them if you miss class. The entire filmed sequence will be available through the Master Class with links explaining the activities if you want to adapt them to your own classroom. The idea is to provide an experience where you can see all of the CI techniques in action in a more realistic classroom format, unlike the short demos that you’d see at a conference.
We start each class period with brief reading program activities (we will be reading from my new ‘zero level’ graphic novel prequel to Superburguesas, translated into Portuguese). Each day features two distinct “conversations”: the 1st conversation is a student-centered activity, and the 2nd conversation focuses loosely on Brazilian culture. As I prepare this course, I am having a tremendously enjoyable time looking through media which highlight favorite elements of Brazilian culture that I will be sharing during the 2nd conversations, scaffolded so that it is all comprehensible to beginners. Finally, we end each class session with a Write & Discuss and an exit quiz. That is the basic framework of the Two Conversations approach.
Class will take place on weekdays at 11am East Coast / 8am West Coast.
All classes are filmed and posted online, inside the CI Master Class.
