“A Cat can be a Hat” is a collection of 6 easy to read comics for beginners (132 pages). “Elke und Jonas” is a full-length graphic novel following the friendship of two high-school students who encourage each other to cultivate new interests (110 pages). Both of these two comic books include all German words defined in the footnotes on the same page, making these texts inviting to lower-level readers.
The four comic books in the “Eine seltsame Welt” series are each about 50 pages long and feature simple story lines with selected words defined in the text, and a full glossary at the end of each story. An example of the glossing from the series is provided below. The text complexity of “Eine seltsame Welt” ranges from beginner to intermediate, with most of the comics aimed at low intermediate learners.
