My classes needed short, daily readings with activities embedded into the texts. These texts are short. They take no more than 10 minutes to read and have margin notes with all vocabulary so that they can be read by anyone… even by the student who has been checked out all semester! Every text has accountability. Most texts are written as cloze passages with a word bank. My students report that they enjoy the puzzle-like challenge of fitting the right word in the right place, and I like that this format encourages them to pay close attention to the meaning of the paragraph.
There are other activities that encourage truly active reading. This book is an excellent addition for fans of the Two Conversations Classroom who are looking for a brief reading to promote literacy every single day. Below I have an example of a typical reading and the table of contents. Altogether there are 211 pages, all translated by native French speaker Teresa Torgoff. This book is available on Amazon.
There is a Spanish version too, with different texts to explore the Spanish-speaking world.
