  1. Hi Mike, I originally bought all these guides the last time that Gran Hotel was on Netflix, but never got to use them in class before it was taken off. In thinking about 2018 and a new semester, I ordered the DVDs from Amazon.es 2 weeks ago. Hopefully, with having the guides, DVDs, and it being on Netflix, I’ll finally get to use it, now! ūüôā

    I have a few questions:
1.) Which version (DVD/Netflix) do you recommend I use? Is there a difference? Which version do the guides cover?

2.) Are your future plans to make more guides for future episodes? Or will 5 episodes be more than enough for spring semester, if used sparingly (for part of class, one or two times a week) and watched slowly with teacher talk promoting the language acquisition?

Thank you for all the great resources for Gran Hotel and the rest of your amazing blog!

    1. 1.) Which version (DVD/Netflix) do you recommend I use?
I use Netflix when available because Netflix remembers exactly where you were last class. If you use the DVDs (which is what I had to do when it was not on Netflix) create a student job to cue and control the DVD during teaching. That way you won’t lose teaching time as you fiddle with the computer.

      Is there a difference?
Not really. Netflix cuts the episode sometimes in what feels like a very arbitrary way after 45 minutes, but the next episode picks up exactly where the last left off.

Which version do the guides cover?
The guides are set up for the DVD version, but if you teach scene by scene you will barely notice. The order of the scenes is the same. If you bought the old Netflix study guides, go back to your TpT account and download the new guides. That is, go through your previous purchases and just redownload what you have already bought— you will get the updated version. I may have updated soem of the content and, since they go to episode 5 on the DVD, the new guides actually go through episode 7 on the Netflix version.

2.) Are your future plans to make more guides for future episodes? Or will 5 episodes be more than enough for spring semester, if used sparingly (for part of class, one or two times a week) and watched slowly with teacher talk promoting the language acquisition?

There are plans to make more, but episodes 1-5 (DVD version) should be enough for a semester.

      1. Thank you so much!
